Equifax Breach Information

In the wake of the Equifax breach, it would be very easy to want to just give up and say, “I don’t want any part of this anymore.  Nothing can be protected.” 

Yes, this is a huge impact that will likely not be realized for months to come.  But, that is no reason to give up the fight.  At Alabama One, we have several systems in place with the sole purpose of protecting your data.  One of the most important is the TEAM members that deal with your data on a daily basis.  However, you can join the fight against the bad guys and protect yourself in the process.  Here are a few things you can do to protect your identity and your credit:  

  • Regularly request free credit reports, inspect, and promptly dispute any unauthorized accounts.
  • Inspect all financial statements and promptly dispute any unauthorized charges.
  • Consider enrolling in free credit reporting and credit monitoring services.
  • Consider implementing a credit lock or credit freeze on your existing credit files.
  • Consider placing fraud alert on your credit files if you believe your data has been compromised.
  • Monitor potential activity in the names of children or minors who have no credit history.
  • Be on guard for suspicious emails, especially with the recent Equifax breach.  Do not, this cannot be emphasized enough, DO NOT open email messages or attachments from unknown senders or click on unknown links.
  • Do not provide personal or sensitive information via email.
  • Always check the legitimacy of email addresses to confirm the sender is who they say they are.  Be careful never to respond to email that looks like it came from someone.  For instance, Alabama One will not ask for information from you via email.  If you receive an email like news@alabama1.org, where the number “1” has been put in for “one” then delete it.  Use this same logic with anyone emailing you.
  • Again, always remember that we will NEVER ask you to verify account information, provide sensitive information, etc. via email.  

Debit Card Security

As the Holiday seasons approach and purchases sky rocket so is the potential for fraudulent debit card activity. Alabama One has implemented new security features to help protect you while shopping and traveling with your Visa debit card.

  • A pin number will now be required at certain merchants. Some merchants are more susceptible to fraud because a pin number is not required for a transaction.
  • A pin number will also be required for out of state transactions.

If you don’t know your PIN, no worries! We are here to assist you with that. To retrieve your pin number for your Visa debit card you may contact our Call Center Representatives at (205) 759-1595. They will be able to issue you one via USPS. Once you receive your pin number in the mail you can take it to any one of our ATMs and personalize it.

You may also stop by our Member Service Department located at our Main Office at 1215 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Tuscaloosa. You will be able to personalize your pin number instantly (Photo I.D. is required).
